Spotlight: Event Stylist, Shelagh Bolger
Carolyn Shields
Shelagh Bolger's name alone calls to mind an image of arcadian elegance. A 2010 graduate from Christendom college, Shelagh put her Political Science degree to use when she was hired at a lobbying firm in our nation's capital shortly after graduation. She quickly fell in love with planning gala dinners and fundraisers and quickly pursued a full time job in event planning.
The following years took her from a university where she worked as the event coordinator for the president to planning events for a totally different venue, a musical one, when she was hired as Marie Miller's tour manager. Born into a musical family, Shelagh quickly settled into this more creative outlet, but there was still something missing.
And that was when she added styling to her event repertoire. With a keen eye for natural beauty, Shelagh decided to launch her own event styling business. "My favorite events to plan and style are definitely dinners or wine and cheese events," she said. "I love intimate dinners in a beautiful space. I tend toward a natural aesthetic so I favor hosting events outside--the setting is already gorgeous and adding a few special touches like brass candlesticks or gold dishes allows for that perfect balance of rustic charm and opulence."
