A New Must Have Catholic Publication

It’s no secret that we are BIG fans of beautiful publications here at theYCW. So when we stumbled across KINDRED Apostle a few weeks ago on instagram, we immediately reached out.

So much of our culture is obsessed with “renting,” as in, we never actually own what we pay for. Whether that’s an apartment or some subscription service like Netflix, it’s rare that we can actually hold something beautiful in our hands and say, “Wow, this is for me.” Similarly, in a way, we’ve been moving away from tangible goodness: magazines are being replaced with digital versions, ebooks are replacing hardcopies, and so on.

KINDRED somehow satisfies both of these things, but also accomplishes way more: it satisfies an ache that is central to the human experience. It brings us the Word, anew.

When I received my order of KINDRED Gospel of Luke and KINDRED Gospel of Mark, I was astounded before I even opened it. It was heavy. And as I opened the envelope, my breath was literally taken away by both its dimensions and weight…talk about quality!

KINDRED is literally a Catholic book lover’s dream. The first thing I did after catching my breath was shoved my nose in it, and I should have known…it smelled delightful. I carefully flipped through the cardstock gloss pages, shaking my head in wonder at how beautiful it all was.

I’ve been a fan of Alabaster Co for a while (KINDRED and Alabaster are almost like sisters), and there’s clear similarities between the two; however, KINDRED’s version of is the New American Version, Revised Edition Bible, is preferable to the New Living Translation that Alabaster favors.

Regardless, I feel like it’s a sign of the Holy Spirit when a creation gets your heart thumping, and KINDRED certainly made my heart leap with joy.
