Liturgical Living With Lisa Kirk

By Olivia Bardella

Wedding magazine editor turned stay-at-home mom and freelance writer, Lisa Kirk has been inspired to share “whatever is lovely” (Philippians 4:8) through her blog Something Pretty since 2010.

There’s reason enough to follow this NYC-born girl now based in Raleigh, North Carolina, just to take notes on her attainable, feminine style - think Audrey Hepburn meets southern charm. But her reflections on motherhood, home life, and family adventures highlighted by her Catholic faith give followers a lovely glimpse into her life, too.

Recently, Lisa has combined her background in magazine editing with her growing love for liturgical living through monthly styled tablescapes in a series she’s coined For This Feast. Focusing on a Catholic feast day each month, Lisa artfully showcases the meaning behind the details of a subtly significant tablescape to enrich our understanding of liturgical celebrations.

“I love that setting a beautiful table, using meaningful and symbolic details, and celebrating with others over a meal can resonate with people in any season, at any age, and in any vocation,” she shares.

Her first tablescape, celebrating the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, featured an herbal tea party inspired by the Germanic tradition connected to this day for the “blessing of the herbs.” Lemon thyme shortbread cookies, fleur de lis napkin folds, and a Marian-inspired tablecloth were some of the thoughtful details Lisa curated to honor Our Lady.

“Liturgical living can feel overwhelming sometimes,” Lisa says, “but if a person brings just one or two of the details I share to life around their own table, I hope they feel better equipped to celebrate in a special way.”
